Boogie Down and Buck Town come around with a boom & pound sound that takes aim at the crown. The two hip hop titans take turns tryin’ to enlighten with what they’ve been writin’.  With over 40 years of combined mic-rockin’ experience, KRS-One and Buckshot carry enough clout to blow doors off hinges anywhere on any hemisphere. KRS doles out his signature sermon style rhymes while Buck is as grimy as he’s ever been. Survival Skills features guest appearances by some of the best to do it…  DJ Revolution, Mary J. Blige, Talib Kweli, Immortal Technique, K’Naan, Pharoahe Monch, Bounty Killer, Slug and an array of Boot Camp Click comrades including Sean Price and Rock.  While the styles play off each other better than most feared when this project was first announced, some of the tracks fall far short of ideal expectations. Buckshot carries most the album, and Immortal Technique’s verse destroys everything else on the album (not surprising though). The effort is obvious… clean production and clear studio work, they did not just throw some good songs on with b-side filler. Survival Skills reaches for the crown, however it only grasps the sceptor at best.
